Scagliola is a decorative technique that dates back to the 16th century, originating in Italy.

It was widely used during the Baroque period in Italy and spread to other parts of Europe, where it was utilised in the decoration of churches, palaces, and other grand buildings.

The Scagliola technique creates the illusion of stone surfaces like marble, limestone, and alabaster by blending fine plaster with pigments. 

Scagliola Plus from Stucco Italiano delivers the same beautiful result but with lower effort and cost, and increased durability.

The original Scagliola technique involves the use of a gypsum-based plaster, applied in large thicknesses It is a time-consuming process that requires skill and patience, making it less accessible for larger projects or tight deadlines.

Unlike the original material, Stucco Italiano’s Scagliola Plus is lime and cement-based and can be applied in minimum thickness (only a few millimetres), allowing for a much faster and easier application. Furthermore, unlike gypsum, lime and cement are more durable and less affected by moisture.
